Artist-centric

Entertainment Experience

Introduction

As a musician and concertgoer, music is very personal to me in the way it connects to us as well as each other.

I often attend concerts because of two reasons:

1. There is simply no other experience that compares to hearing the thump of the bass in your heart or the energy of the crowd around you

2. To support my favorite artists through purchasing concert tickets and merchandise

Musician's Struggle

CD sales: no longer reliable source of income

The most reliable source of income is from fans who attend shows

Therefore,

The question is:
how can we build new artist - centric experiences?

Personal Account

This is my favorite band Ballyhoo! Some time ago, they asked for help funding their newest album "Pineapple Grenade". People who donated were promised a special "hooligans" edition album, featuring pictures provided by donors.

At the time I did not have very much money, but because there was a personal incentive that gave me exclusive content, I was more then willing to help my favorite band.I still have this album to this date.

Other bands have followed this trend. 5 Seconds of Summer promted fans to share music in order to unlock their music video.

By offering exclusive content to the consumer, the artist establishes a personal bond.

Ideation

When initially approaching this my thoughts were:

What is the best way to make data physical in a digital world?

How can we benifit both the consumer and artist?

How can this become a social experiance?

After consulting with a mentor, a lead product designer that works for an audio company, we determined that making a physical wristband that becomes more when at home was the best solution.

Experimentation with clasps, snap wristbands, RFID integration and material choices

Form exploration and wristband integration. The goal was to make the wristband the focal point while maintaining an aggressiveness in form factor.

Mockups

Wristband mockup

This gave me an idea of how much room an artist would have to put personalized artwork

I explored the possibilities of how it would open and close

I found it useful for determining how it would wrap around the speaker form

By making this full scale I was able to determine a satisfying ratio in the final design

The mockup is 5.5 inches in diameter and 12 inches in length.
